Sponsored by NRCS, Capital RC&D and PAGFLCC, a summer grazing school for beef producers event will be held June 24th & 25th 2011.  A pasture walk will be held at the Ketterer Farm in Newville PA. Classroom training will be held at the Cumberland County service Center in Carlisle PA and field training will be held at Emerald Valley Farm in Newville PA.  Please register by Monday June 20th.  There is a registration fee of $10.00

The Pennsylvania USDA NRCS Grazing Specialists are holding trainings focusing on basic pasture management concepts and grazing plan development.  These trainings are to be held at four different locations in Pennsylvania.  These trainings are targeted towards new conservation planners, or planners/employees with limited grazing experience from companies or agencies that deal with improving and conserving our Natural Resources on agricultural lands. 

 

Topics to be included in the trainings are:

·         Establishing or Improving Prescribed Grazing on Livestock Operations

·         Developing a Basic Gazing Plan

·         Basic Conservation Practices Found In a Grazing System

·         How to manage Forages in Different Scenarios

·         How do I Include the Livestock in the Winter?

·         How to Sell the Environmental/Conservation Benefits for the Resource Concerns

·         What is a Contingency Plan?

·         Do I have to Plan Nutrient Management?

·         How to Document an Implemented Prescribed Grazing System, Including Records
